Postcards

The Smithy and garage around 1938
Postcards have been in existence for over 150 years and show no signs of disappearing even with the internet mounting a strong challenge. To begin with plain postcards were introduced by governments mainly for advertising or as souvenirs of major events. Around 1900, real photographs were used as postcards and with the advent of Kodak photography the public could have their own pictures printed with a postcard back. During this time the postcard became one of the great collectables. With the boom in rail travel and holidays the postcard saw its heyday only interrupted by the two world wars.
Three pictures of the same view but subtle changes are going on to roofs and road. The big tree on the right was cut down in 1928.
