Paths
Circuit of 3½ miles
This walk takes you to the top of Mains Road (south side of village) and completes a circuit to link up with the road to Fintry (Fair Loan) before dropping back down to the village. You will get fine views of the edge of the highlands including the Menteith Hills, Ben Ledi and Ben Lomond (see the banner on the Home page). There are seats along the way chosen to provide a good view and a pause for breath. On the walk you will pass the site of Arnprior Castle (now just part of the field) and skirt around the top of Arnprior Glen, part of which is designated a Special Site of Scientific Interest (SSSI) due to its gorge woodland and plants. Stay alert to traffic on Fair Loan. As you complete the circuit at the A811 you will pass a cottage on the corner of the junction with the Port of Menteith Road. This started out as a drover's alehouse catering for users of the cattle trail around the western edge of the mosses.

Most of these walks use quiet roads and a few tracks; purpose made paths are few and far between. However, everyone has a right of access over most land and inland water as long as those rights are exercised responsibly. As much of the land is farmland this means taking extra care around fields with crops and livestock and keeping an eye out for farm machinery on the move. Try the Code website if you want more information. In the next year or two we will try and develop some new links that everybody can use.
Paths
Circuit of 3 miles
Make your way out of the west end of the village and follow the field path on the north side of the road. This might be a bit overgrown in the lower section but keep going to the end. Walking on the A811 is not advised so keep to the edge of the field and exit via the field gate on the estate road to Causewayhead and head north. Keep to the estate road as it winds its way past the farm and good views across the carse farmland start to appear with Ben Lomond in the distance – you may even find a seat! Follow the track round to the right past more farm buildings and you will notice you are getting closer to the line of the old railway. The track emerges onto the Port of Menteith Road (reasonably quiet but stay aware of oncoming vehicles) then you turn right and head back to Arnprior emerging at the junction with the A811.
